Why does he stay in?
by Probablyshouldrun ini was seeing a jw man for about a year and a half until l broke it off with him last week.
we met on a dating site.
he shouldn’t have been on there, of course, but he was lonely.

Probablyshouldrun asked me, "My question is, why does he stay in if he doesn’t believe in and follow all the ridiculous rules?"
Thanks for asking! There are a few good reasons:
1. He's an idiot.
2. Some - actually a surprisingly large percentage of JWs - develop a unique side-set of theological axioms that basically goes like this -- "Jehovah can see EVERYTHING you do and can peer into the content of your heart in minute particularity, but I will survive Armageddon because >> I << can fool the old man.
3. There may be a small minority of JWs who have convinced themselves that JW-ism is THE BEST WAY TO LIVE©, even if they can't keep the rules and seriously expect to die at Armageddon.
I was an active for about 20 years starting at age 7, and I have known all three varieties of JW. I was almost a true believer (with flaws), but I couldn't stand being one any longer after I learned about pedophilia in my local congregation (I was a pioneer and a deacon) that the elders swept under the rug.
PS - I agree that "missionary dating" is a worthy term for the apostate lexicon. Well done!

Watchmen HBO Series Mentioning the acutal Watchtower by JW's
by 720Reddog inwatchtower.
the watchtower is a jehovah's witnesses publication, but it’s fitting that it would feature in the watchmen series.
in this episode the watchtower by jehovah's witness is displayed.. "it's interesting to me cause it's an obvious display of cultish type beliefs.

Yes, I was going to mention this but took the precaution of checking to see if someone might have beaten me to it. YOU did, 720Reddog!
Congratulations!
WATCHMEN is based on a popular "graphic novel" (comic book) of a few years ago that then became a Hollywood movie. The cable-TV series on the USA HBO network is based on the original WATCHMEN, with added characters and some plot direction that was not in the original comic book.
It's a good show, and I'm sure the WTB&TS sees the invisible but mighty hand of Jehovah using popular media to inform the public that the Apocalypse is only minutes away.
>yawn<
I'll bet at the next few meetings ALL the rank-and-file JWs will be instructed to subscribe to HBO and watch Jah's mysteriously unfolding will.
By the way, Dr. Manhattan and Ozymandias helped with the construction of the UADNA orbiting space platform.
Look on my works, Watchtower, and despair!

Memorial date
by DomineIvimus-DI incan someone please help me with this, if you’ve looked into it before?.
i read somewhere that the witnesses didn’t celebrate the memorial on nisan 14 according to the jewish calendar.
i did a quick google check - seems next years memorial is on tuesday (nisan 13) rather than the wednesday, nisan 14 according to the jewish calendar.

When we were active in our Dubishness, we were proud that our only annual religious observance was The Memorial.
Now, having evolved to the level of almost-fully-woke apostates, our only annual event is to regurgitate the rhetoric about whether the WTB&TS is able to figure out WHEN Nisan 14 occurs.
Sisters and Brothers, I DON'T CARE! ...and really, neither should you!
Come, kiss Hank's Ass with me!

What can a therapist really do?
by Thetruthhurts inhi all, i've not read the forums for awhile as i've been trying to move on with my life but i'm back and posting for the first time feeling like i cant get a grip.
so i'm wondering for those of you that have seen a therapist and say that it truly helps, what can be accomplished?
i'm just really skeptical, but starting to feel desperate.

My reasons for seeking help didn't have as much to do with my Dub experience as it did with some serious physical challenges I had to deal with, but my Dubbish background played a part, as it turns out.
I had a few memorable less-than-optimum experiences: on one visit with a psychiatrist, I was yammering away about my feelings when I heard him snoring. Note to self: make an effort to apply the Theocratic Ministry School lessons about adding dynamism to my presentations! No, I didn't go back to that shrink,,, Another time I was on my first visit with a psychologist and gave her my story. Her reaction was, "That was hard, but think about what a STRONG PERSON you became as a result!" Yeah, me an Samson, with that psychologist as the Ass's jawbone.
I want to correct a typo I made in my earlier post. I meant MEDICATIONS but typed MEDIATIONS instead. Two things to remember about meds: a) most have side-effects that are seldom welcome, and it is unlikely that any med is going to make you happy about the problems you've been through; at best they might help you be less bothered by those problems, but no drug can change the past.
Like Thetruthhurts, I am an atheist.

Hi, Thetruthhurts. You are correct, of course, no person can change your circumstances.
What CAN change, many times, is the way we FEEL about our circumstances.
Let me first say that I have experience with both psychiatrists and psychologists. The difference between the two is that psychiatrists can prescribe medications and psychologists are limited to "the talking cure."
One thing I was slow to realize was that the doctor can't "fix" problems without the participation of the patient. One of the first things the patient has to deal with is their EXPECTATIONS. As an extreme example, if your foot has been amputated, no psychiatrist or psychologist or mediation can give you your foot back.
They can help you see ways to change your feelings about your circumstances from one of "I'm a victim who didn't deserve this." To "this happened to me, and I survived it."
As with any doctor, you need to find one you feel comfortable with. I wish you success in your journey.

Why Did You Stay In The JW Religion As Long As You Did?
by minimus inwere you so indoctrinated that you just couldn’t leave?
was it due to family pressure?
was it your friendships that you didn’t want to lose?
-

Tenacious, how many apostates invaded you? Did you need larger pants after this, or a larger hat?
I'm just teasing you; I've had 47 apostates invade me, and it was EXQUISITE!
But seriously, thanks for sharing your experience. Isn't it funny how once we wake up we ask ourselves, "How could I have believed that?"

StephaneLaliberte said, "...What made me change my mind was the realization that a just God would judge the actions rather than the belief."
Here is something you might find interesting; I'm surprised this isn't more widely discussed.

If I ever decided that I wasn't an atheist (which is unlikely because I am SO intelligent), I would probably feel this was my best guess.
